Case Study 1
GSK Developer Portal
Enterprise Platforms Projects
Mission
My mission at GSK was to lead a team of designers to launch their first-ever developer portal. I worked with engineers, the business and product owners, to develop a strategy and establish the beginnings of their inaugural internal API ecosystem. Despite plenty of challenges our small yet mighty team, successfully delivered the first portal in less than a year.
In 8 months we successfully launched the first internal developer portal designed and built by internal teams at GSK. Our products consisted of a few internally developed API’s and web components. In order to springboard this and future platform efforts we created a new design system that we successfully leveraged here for the first time. Check out the launch video on the right and some strategy decks below.
Initial Strategy
During the first week at GSK, I began to lay the foundation for the design of an api ecosystem, working closely with the lead engineers and product owners. There were a few apis available, however there didn’t exist any consistent method or system to consume or share reusable technology. There also wasn’t any consistent business guidelines around sharable technology.
Approach
Workshops & Alignment
The real fun happens in workshops. My method of leading design is to fully engage and involve engineers, product owners and designers to come together to achieve shared results. In this workshop, I also brought in compliance. We were able to rapidly debate concepts, understand constraints and gain insight by hearing each others perspectives. Ultimately, I believe that workshops are where design really lives.
Case Study 2
Self-Service RPA Platform
Robotics Process Automation - Enterprise Platforms
Objectives for RPA
Streamline the business process for 7 LOB’s and scale RPA production across GSK.
It began with an extremely siloed business process that was heavily waterfall and manual.
Still faxing and using wet signature approvals.
The discovery journey led to the realization that we needed a cohesive compliance and business process which we could expose through a self-service platform, using the developer portal. Thus, expediting and scaling RPA across GSK.
Projected Business Outcomes
Annual Cost Savings with current growth rate
Reduction in Cycle time will increase RPA growth
Strategy & Process
Discovery, lean research, strategy, negotiations, stakeholder alignment, rapid iterative design process
Beta Prototype
Beta versions of the self-service promotion and access management.
